A woman from Frome has claimed that CDB oil changed her life after hitting “rock-bottom” by the age of 30.
By her early 30s, hairdresser Maria Mullane said she was virtually bed bound, drained of energy, found it hard even to lift a cup of tea and had to drag herself to the bathroom.
According to a case study released by Frome-based supplement manufacturer George Botanicals, Mrs Mullane was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
The long-term condition causes pain all over the body and can leave sufferers with heightened sensitivity to pain, fatigue and muscle stiffness, according to the NHS.
Mrs Mullane needed to use sticks when walking and had increased anxiety due to the condition.
She said she had little more than three hours sleep a night and was taking 32 tablets a day.
However, after her friend recommended using CDB oil, Mrs Mullane decided to give it a try and George Botanicals has been following her progress.
Taken from a variety of cannabis plant called industrial hemp – Cannabis Sativa L ‚Äď the product contains less than 0.2 per cent of the mind-altering chemical called Tetrahydrocannabino (THC) which cannabis is best known for.
The products are classified by the UK Government as a food supplement and so George Botanicals is unable to advertise them for well-being benefits.
Some research has found the products can help people with sleeping problems, anxiety and pain management. It is also used by athletes.
Mrs Mullane, now 46, told George Botanicals: “My friend gave me the remains of a couple of bottles of different types of CBD oil and advised me to try them both, to see which helped. I was extremely sceptical, but agreed and over the next week or so I tested both.
“I tried a few drops of George Botanicals‚Äô oil and, for the first time in years, I slept until 6am. Normally I had been awake three hours earlier. It felt amazing.
She said: ‚ÄúI ordered some oil online and as I used it regularly, I noticed my pain reduced to a manageable level and I had more energy. That was last summer and I really haven‚Äôt looked back. It‚Äôs been fantastic. I also use the CBD balm on my neck and shoulders, to ease the pain.‚ÄĚ
Mrs Mullane, who lives near Frome in Somerset with husband Mark, daughter Jazmine, 22, and 19-year-old son Brad, was delighted to discover George Botanicals was made nearby and visited the farm.
‚ÄúI was most impressed at how it was run,‚ÄĚ she said.
Her husband Mark, who suffered a traumatic accident on holiday a few years ago which left him in great pain and unable to walk far, also finds the oil beneficial.
She said: “It’s not a miracle cure and it might not work for some people, but these oils have changed my life.
‚ÄúThey help me control the pain and I‚Äôve reduced my daily tablets drastically.”
On November 1 2018, it was made legal for specialist doctors to prescribe cannabis-based products containing varying levels of CBD and THC (the psychoactive compound of cannabis) to patients.
Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has backed the use of cannabis oil products for medical use according to the Guardian.
