Despite CBD now being legal in many countries including the USA, its usage is still controversial.

It has been known to treat a lot of health disorders but has also been known to pose risks. So, before you decide to use CBD oil, you need to be fully informed about what it is, when it can be used, and its pros and cons.

In this article, we shall discuss what CBD oil actually is, how it can be used, its risks, and the various risks it may pose.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD, also known as cannabinoids, is one of the 104 compounds found in the cannabis or hemp plants. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant and then diluting the concentrate with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil. CBD is not psychoactive since it does not contain any THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and is known to help with chronic pain and anxiety disorders.

Will CBD Oil Give Me a High?

If you thought CBD oil had psychoactive properties and could give you a high, you were wrong. While marijuana contains both CBD and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main ingredient that gives you a high, CBD is different. It does not contain any traces of THC and is thus not psychoactive. So, while THC can ignite certain paranoia and amplify anxiety in individuals, CBD works otherwise.

The Benefits of CBD

Research has shown that CBD can help in improving the health of a person in many ways. CBD oil benefits include:

  • Works as a pain reliever – Research shows that CBD oil can help with relieving pain and inflammation. It does so by impacting the endocannabinoid receptor activity in the body and reducing pain and inflammation.
  • With stress being a primary health concern of many individuals today, CBD oil can be good news. While pharmaceutical drugs can help with the problem, they also cause side-effects. A recent study that included 24 people with social anxiety disorder showed that the group that received 600 mg of CBD had significantly less anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance as compared to the group that received placebo before a public speaking test.
  • If you or anyone you know wants to quit smoking, you can give CBD oil a try. A study showed that smokers who used inhalers containing CBD oil smoked lesser cigarettes than usual and also had no further cravings for nicotine.
  • Research has shown CBD to cause effective improvement in Epileptic patients. In 2018, the FDA approved the use of CBD as a therapy for two rare conditions characterized by epileptic seizures – Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) and the Dravet syndrome (DS).
  • CBD has been proved effective in the treatment of patients undergoing different neuropsychiatric disorders, neuronal injuries, neurodegeneration, and various other psychiatric diseases.
  • Other diseases that can be treated with CBD oil are Type1 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.

The Side-Effects of CBD Oil

Various researches shows that there are no significant side-effects are seen in people who take CBD oil as a medicine. It is considered safe to use. However, some of the common side-effects observed in many are fatigue or tiredness. Some other side-effects are diarrhea, change in weight, and loss of appetite.

Research has shown no long-term risks involved to date. However, children have never been a part of the study.
